The Michael Nightingale Award
Michael Nightingale (1953) gave a legacy for the support of postgraduate students of Trinity Hall. The award provides for one full Graduate Studentship, covering fees and maintenance costs, or part funding for up to two graduate students of outstanding merit whose area of research is in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences or Mental Health.
Othneil came to Trinity Hall in 2021 from Jamaica to study for an MPhil in Education, and has stayed on to continue to PhD.

“Receiving this award fills me with great satisfaction. Michael Nightingale, a Trinity Hall man from 1953, rose from humble roots to a unique career in film, stage, and television. His 1991 bequest, a living legacy, now supports students like me.
It covers my tuition, alongside a Cambridge International Scholarship for other expenses, freeing me to pursue a PhD for the military and people of Jamaica, investigating the concept of discipline in youth military training.
This support has been crucial. I believe my research will ripple effects, positively impacting education worldwide.”
